Specklefeather stretched happily. Most of his wounds were gone now, and he didn't ache ever time he moved anymore. Nightshade couldn't say anything to make him stay here anymore, he was going to be leader. He had even decided who would be his deputy, he had found the perfect cat for the job, it had just taken him a while. Blizzardstorm would do great as deputy, and he was qualified because he was training Greenpaw right now. The 'having an apprentice' wasn't an issue because of that, thankfully. So Specklefeather headed out of his den, his patched orange-black pelt waving smoothly, not shining with scars like it once had. He headed straight for the medicine cat's den, to go wake Nightshade. As much as he would rather go himself, the medicine cat was to come with Specklefeather on this journey.
He thought back to when he had simply been a warrior, who had thought that being deputy would be great. He had gotten the spot, and now, he was leader. He was going to have the nine lives of a leader, and he was going to take care of his Clan. He couldn't believe that this could actually be happening, that life could be going so great. Nightshade would be glad to come with him too, no doubt, since the Clan needed a leader. Specklefeather approached the medicine cat den and softly whispered "Nightshade?"

Nightshade was curled up in a light nap when he heard Specklefeather's voice. She looked up lowly and yawned. Then she stretched and made her way tot he Leader. "Your looking much better now. You'll be wanting to go to the Moonglass now, won't you?" she asked, blinking the sleep from her eyes.

Specklefeather tilted his head to her. "Exactly, ThornClan is weaker without a leader, and with a leader and a deputy, we will be that much stronger. It's time we went to the Moonglass." Specklefeather beckoned to Nightshade then set off out of camp. He was anxious to reach the Moonglass.

Nightshade followed her to-be leader out of the den and headed after her towards the Moonglass. She ran a little to catch up and walked next to Specklefeather. "So, your scars seemed to have healed nicely." she said presently. Then her voice turned stern. "But you still need to tell me if they start hurting."

Specklefeather shook his head and sighed. "It doesn't hurt, or I wouldn't even be asking you if I could go. I've only got this one left, really" he said, indicating the scar on his leg, that still shone, the only one left, though it was mostly healed itself. His step quickened as they skirted through GaleClan territory, though they ran into no cats on the way. His heart beat a little faster when they reached the Moonglass. He could remember this place, he had been here once before. Overcome, Specklefeather stood there, wondering exactly what he should be doing next.

Nightshade let out a small yawn as they reached the Moonglass. She wasn't used to being up this late. She could see the moon shining between the clouds, then it was covered again. Nightshade hoped it didn't rain tonight. She saw Specklefeather standing near the Moonglass and Nightshade hoped Specklefeather knew what to do because Nightshade had never been here when there was to be a new leader. Nightshade waited a moment, and when Specklefeather didn't do anything Nightshade walked up to the Moonglass and lay down with her nose touching it, then she drifted off to sleep.

Specklefeather watched Nightshade, then went up to the Moonglass. He stared at it, then touched the surface and lay down. Soon, he could see the cats of StarClan standing around him. An old cat stepped forward, the age showing in his muzzle. Specklefeather was glad to see Rainstar, the ThornClan's old leader. His age showed on him, but he looked younger here with StarClan than he ever had his last moons in ThornClan. Rainstar spoke in his old voice, but with seemed more wisdom than before, if that was possible. "Welcome, Specklefeather, are you ready to recieve your nine lives?"
Specklefeather nodded. "Yes, I am ready."
Rainstar stepped back, and a new cat stepped forward. It was Spottedears, his mother that had left the Clan and become a loner. She had died, but she had found a place in StarClan, and Specklefeather was glad to know so. She looked at him with pride in her eyes, glad to have him as her son. "With this life, I give you courage, may you use it to protect your Clan, even at the cost of your life." She touched him softly, and Specklefeather felt a rush of both pain and joy. He realized how his mother had decided to leave, and what it had done to her as well.
Another cat came forward, Woodkit, the brother Specklefeather had lost to greencough. The kit looked so much wiser than he had ever been. "With this life, I give you inner strength, may you use it to see the truth and do what is right." Woddkit's life was short, but full of much more joy than Spottedears had been.
Ratpaw bounded forward, full of the energy she had never really had a chance to use. "With this life, I give you loyalty, may use it to never sway in what you believe in, and to protect it." She brushed him gently, and Specklefeather closed his eyes at her feelings of pride and being an apprentice, there was no anger or fear, she never had been scared of much.
Dawnfur, the mentor Specklefeather had loved so much, stepped forward. "With this life, I give you wisdom, may you use it to know what is right for each cat, and that we are all unique." There was an odd twinkle in her eye, the one she caught when teaching him as she stepped back.
It was his father, Mudheart, to come forward next. "With this life, I give you faith, may you use it to judge other well and be willing to believe another side of the story." There were four cats left to go now, and Specklefeather stood ready for them.
Specklefeather recognized Goldenshine, Blizzardstorm's sister that had saved her brother's life in a battle. "With this life, I give you integrity, may you use it to always know that the right thing is best, even when no one but you can appreciate it."
He was a little surprised to see Ivypaw, Arcticfire's brother, but also quite glad as he had been mentor to the cat. Ivypaw always had been good at fighting, and loved learning it. Specklefeather had taught the cat everything he knew, though it had never been his own strong spot. Ivypaw stepped forward to him. "With this life, I give you honesty, may you use it to always be true to yourself, and to your Clan." Ivypaw brushed him, and Specklefeather felt the fierceness of his life, his determination to fight well.
Specklefeather had never known Whitepaw to much, Arcticfire's other brother, but that was the next cat to come forward to him. "With this life, I give you humility, may you use it to know that you have faults like others, and have to have the humility to know that there are battles you cannot win."
Wolfpaw's brother, Blazekit, bounded forward. Specklefeather remembered the kit, and had been sorry to see him die. The kit came forward, and spoke to Specklefeather. "With this life, I give you quick-mindedness, may you use it to have an answer to those things you don't have time to think over." The kit brushed him, then stepped back.
Rainstar was last to step forward. "I'm so proud of you Specklefeather, and I know you will serve your Clan well. With this life, I give you selflessness, may you use it to make sure the Clan always comes first before you." Rainstar brushed Specklefeather softly, and Specklefeather felt the pain of his life.
"I hail you by your new name, Specklestar. Your old life is no more. You have now received the nine lives of a leader, and StarClan grants you the guardianship of ThornClan. Defend it well; care for young and old; honor your ancestors and the traditions of the warrior code; live each life with pride and dignity" Rainstar said calmly to the new leader, who stood there proudly as the cats of StarClan, who chanted "Specklestar, Specklestar!" loudly and happily.
Specklestar suddenly awoke, and became aware of the Moonglass, and of his nine lives, coursing through him. He could feel the courage Spottedears had promised him with his first life, and felt ready to defend against anything. He turned to Nightshade, and nudged her softly. "Nightshade?"

Nightshade was walking through tall grass. It was swaying back and forth although there was no wind. She couldn't see over the grass, only the brown swaying opening in front of her to reveal more grass. She called out above the grass, but no one answered. Then she felt an odd chill spread over her and she suddenly noticed how alone she was here. She couldn't see anyone, just grass. She scented the still air, but the smell of the grass was overpowering. She couldn't have smelt anyone, even if they were right next to her. She shivered again and sat down on the cold, unfeeling ground. Then she looked about and called out again, but with the same response, silence. Just as she felt she was losing all hope of escaping this strange world she felt someone, or something, touch her shoulder. She spun around in surprise, but there was no one there. Then she felt it again, and a odd distant voice accompanied it. "Nightshade?" It was Specklefeather's voice. Suddenly the coldness of the strange world lifted and she opened her eyes to see Specklefeather above her. She gave a sigh of relief and turned to her new leader. "Specklefeather." she said "Or should I say, Specklestar?" she smiled warmly and tried to push the memory of the cold, bleak world from her mind. She didn't know why StarClan had sent her that dream, but they must have been warning her, but of what she didn't know.

"Specklestar works" he said happily, "we should probably be getting back, though. Are you alright?" Specklestar added, because Nightshade didn't look to well at the moment. Was something bothering her? There wasn't much time to think about that, though, because they did need to get back. ThornClan needed a deputy now that they had a leader, and it was time for them to get their new deputy. ThornClan was going to rise up, better than they were before, stronger than they were before, they would not be torn down by the other Clans now, they would stand firm with their territory. This thought lifted Specklestar like nothing used to before.
