"Great!" he exclaimed enthusiastically. Tensing his back legs, he took a small, dramatic, leap of happiness. He couldn't wait for moonrise. Slowing down, he started to observe more carefully; letting his thoughts slide away, he concentrated on the territory. He stepped lightly over the mucky terrain, making sure to keep his paws out of the mud. Staying just behind Flametail, he pushed through the undergrowth, scenting carefully. Frogs croaked all around him, singing to attract other frogs. He watched as one hopped in front of him. How can the MireClan cats eat these, they look so... Unappetizing. He wrinkled his nose in disgust. Squelch, his paw sunk into a soft spot in the marsh. Pulling it out, he looked in dismay, his whole leg was soaked in the foul-smelling mud. "I hate this place," he muttered "Give me a soft forest floor any day,"

"Yeah... I don't know how those MireClan cats stand it. I know I couldn't. However, the frogs can be tasty," she added as she leapt at a frog. The frog hopped away, and Flametail tensed her legs in midair, ready to shoot off after it as soon as she landed.
She hit the ground and immediately found that it wasn't as solid as she had thought. Half swimming through mud almost reaching her belly, she struggled to the solid land and snarled her frustration.
"I'm not going to lick this off. It'll have to wait until we can get to that stream," she said to Rainfall.
She was about to add more, but her ears caught the sound of pawsteps, and she turned her head towards them. She was looking straight at MireClan territory."Uh-oh, I think there's a MireClan border patrol coming along."
((Would you like to role-play one of your MireClan cats patrolling the border? If you don't want to, then Flametail and Rainfall can just hide in the bushes until the patrol leaves...))

((I think it'd be better if they just hid.))
Rainfall froze, listening closely, he could hear them approaching now too. He flattened his body to the ground, flattening his ears and lowering his tail. He hoped they wouldn't be spotted. Glancing around through the darkness, he looked for a good hiding spot. There was certainly lots of undergrowth, but they needed something that would hide them from view on all sides. There was a large patch of brambles to the side, but he didn't want to hide in that unless he absolutely had to. Glancing behind him, he saw a thick tangle of sedge and long grasses. That should hide us.
He glanced at the deputy, with a questioning flick of his ears, he pointed it out. "How 'bout hiding there?" he whispered. Well it looks like the best option, unless she can see somewhere better from where she is.

Flametail hesitated, and then ran and dove into the tangle of flora that Rainfall had pointed out. "Good hiding place," she meowed, her voice muffled by the thick grass. "Come on, get in here before they see us!"
She could hear them talking quietly among each other, and by the sound of the voices and pawsteps she deduced that there were two apprentices and one older cat. Just a border patrol, then, not an attack. Still... probably good to remain hidden, avoid getting into a scuffle. With all the recent battles and tensions running high between the clans at the moment, Flametail would rather have her next encounter with cats of another clan at the gathering, rather than in the middle of the forest, without a truce.
Suddenly she remembered the gathering, and looked up at the sky. The moon was nearly directly overhead.
"Rainfall, we'll be late for the gathering!" She whispered as she backed slowly away and then turned and ran towards the camp, to prepare for the gathering.

"You're right!" he exclaimed in surprise. He glanced over his shoulder, making sure the MireClan patrol was out of earshot before he turned to follow the deputy. The glow of the moonlight that lit the forest was everywhere, turning his thoughts to the gathering immediately. Would they be too late? Would the leader leave without them? In any case, he hoped they wouldn't keep the other clans waiting. That would just be embarrassing. Rainfall knew he hated being patient while waiting for other clans to arrive, and GaleClan really didn't need that kind of reputation. The territory became more familiar as they neared the heart of GaleClan territory, the trees cast eerie shadows and sparse brush coated the ground. Despite the night, he felt a lot more calm. He stepped up the pace a bit, they would be back at the camp before long.
